Melco EMC6 headless conversion and boot disks

 

Converting the machine into a standalone headless system is pretty straightforward, there is a standard 32 pin shugart connector and a 4 pin socket for power. If a drive is connected, the machine will automatically try to boot from it. Not wanting to deal with floppy disks i went with a cheap gotek emulator and installed flash floppy firmware on it.

Making boot disks for Melco EMC/EMT Embroidery Machines

It took awhile to get this working, Melco used to provide the necessary files but have since taken down their FTP so i had to pull the required RSA files off the EDS III installation and found a copy of MELCO.SYS off an old group support page.

You will require the following files to make a boot disk

I created a 720K disk image and wrote the files to it but you can do this with a clean 720K formatted disk (not quick formatted) Copy MELCO.SYS first, then copy whatever RSA file you need for your machine.

Thats it, MELCO.SYS needs to be the first entry in the file table on the disk for it to boot properly.
